Fairfield First School

Originally construction in 1873, Fairfield Primary School underwent an expansion project in which Neal R Shipley & Co Ltd was contracted as the main principal contractor to construct a three-classroom extension. To facilitate this expansion, a temporary double modular classroom was demolished to allow the new extension. In addition, internal alterations were made to provide access to the new extension from the main building, and an external south elevation canopy was added to offer a covered walkway between the existing school and the new extension.

Furthermore, the project included the development of an outdoor PE area, and additional parking spaces. Due to the importance of the conservation and wildlife in the surrounding area, careful attention was given to the design of the outdoor lighting during the projects meticulous planning.

The construction process of the new pre-school building was an exciting and challenging endeavour. The project required careful coordination of various teams and professionals to ensure its successful completion. One of the primary challenges faced during the construction phase was space. The site was relatively small, which posed logistical difficulties in terms of manoeuvring construction vehicles and equipment. However, the construction team came up with innovative solutions to optimize the use of the space and minimize disruption to the surrounding areas.  

The project was procured on a competitive tender basis, with the construction phase requiring meticulous planning to ensure that site operations continued during the COVID-19 pandemic to strict government guidelines.
