Chawson First School

Chawson First School in Droitwich received state funding to construct a new stand-alone pre-school facility within their existing school premises. The objective of the project was to create a dedicated pre-school facility that would cater to the needs of the growing student population at Chawson First School.

Neal R Shipley & Co Ltd were appointed as Principal contractor to construction the new building which consisted of two nursery classrooms, an office, two WC facilities, a kitchen, and nappy change facilities. The construction had to be carried out while the school remained operational, necessitating the creation of a temporary access road to ensure segregation and safety. The primary challenge faced during the construction process was the need to work within a live school environment. It was crucial to ensure the safety of the students and staff while minimizing disruptions to their daily routines. Additionally, the limited space available within the school premises posed logistical challenges for the construction team. A temporary access road was built to separate the construction site from the rest of the school. This ensured the safety of the students and staff, allowing them to continue their activities without any interruptions. The construction team also implemented strict safety protocols and coordinated closely with the school administration to minimize disruptions.

As part of their commitment to sustainability, Chawson First School incorporated renewable energy sources into the new pre-school facility. An air source heat pump was installed to provide special heating for the building. This energy-efficient solution not only reduced the carbon footprint of the facility but also resulted in long-term cost savings for the school.

The successful completion of the project resulted in the addition of a state-of-the-art pre-school facility to Chawson First School. The new building provided much-needed space for the growing student population, ensuring a conducive learning environment. The integration of renewable energy sources further showcased the school's commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.
